Tuolumne River Trust asks for help with letters and meeting attendance on public hearing with San Francisco Public Utilities Commission

October 11, 2008 -- In less than three weeks, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) will vote on the Water System Improvement Program (WSIP) for the Hetch Hetchy water system. It's important that they hear from as many of us as possible, so please take a moment right now to send a note encouraging them to choose an option that does not cause further harm to the Tuolumne River. It's easy to send a letter using the new action page on our website at http://www.tuolumne.org/ content/article.php/stopgrab

Please forward this link to your friends!

Also, next Wednesday, the SFPUC will host a public meeting in Menlo Park. This will be a great opportunity to speak in support of the Tuolumne. Please join us on October 15 at 6pm at the Belle Haven Senior Services Center, 110 Terminal Ave., Menlo Park.

The Tuolumne River Trust and Sierra Club will host a special campaign meeting in Palo Alto on Sunday, October 19 at 6pm. We'll present an update on the SFPUC's plan for the Tuolumne, and then strategize ways to protect the River. Pizza will be provided (please feel free to bring something to share if you're so inclined). The meeting will be located at the Peninsula Conservation Center, 3921 E. Bayshore Rd. in Palo Alto (directions at http://www.acterra.org/about/ locations.html). Please RSVP to Jessie at jessie@tuolumne.org.

October 30 (Thursday) -- This will be the moment of truth! In the morning the SF Planning Commission will discuss and vote on certification of the final EIR for the WSIP. In the afternoon, probably at 1:30pm, the SFPUC will choose a project. A big public turnout will help ensure the best outcome, so please plan on joining us. More details will follow. In the meantime, if you would like to check out the final EIR, it's available at http://www.sfgov.org/site/ planning_index.asp?id=80530

Canoe Trips -- The Tuolumne River Trust will be hosting a number of canoe trips in the Modesto area this fall (when the salmon are running). For more information and to sign up, please visit http:// www.tuolumne.org/content/article.php/20081009085452220

Thank you for helping to protect the "Wild & Scenic" Tuolumne River!
