Attention Duck Hunters: Access Changes at Point Edith Wildlife Area, Contra Costa County

Oct. 16, 2008

Beginning immediately, the Point Edith Wildlife Area is now accessible for hunting by boat only from Suisun Bay. The Tesoro Golden Eagle Refinery on Waterfront Road is no longer allowing access through its refinery lands. Access using Hastings Slough is not allowed by the federal government.

The Point Edith Wildlife Area is located approximately 2˝ miles east of Martinez, north of Waterfront Road. This 760-acre marsh area consists of numerous water channels and tiny ponds.

Point Edith Wildlife Area is designated as a Type C area, which means it is open seven days a week and no permits, passes or reservations are required. However, a California hunting license and appropriate duck stamps are required. Hunting will open Saturday, Oct.18. Hunting opportunities are available daily during the open season for waterfowl, coots and moorhens. Please refer to the “California Regulations 2008-2009 Waterfowl Hunting/Hunting and Other Public Uses on State and Federal Areas” booklet for further information.

A map of the area is on the Department of Fish and Game Web site at www.dfg.ca.gov/lands/wa/region3/docs/pointedithTopo.pdf.
