October 5, 2009 -- On Sunday, October 18th Sac-Sierra Trout Unlimited will be participating in a hands-on restoration project on the Little Truckee River as a part of the 14th annual Truckee River Day.  The hands-on work will involve decommissioning two illegal, user created OHV hill climbs that drop down into the Little Truckee meadow on the west side of the stream.  These two hill climbs dump sediment into important spawning areas of the Little Truckee.  Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks including:

bullet

Scarify the hill climbs from top to bottom using Pulaski’s, shovels and rock bars.

bullet

Stabilize stream bank’s with rocks and woody debris.

bullet

Help to cover the decommissioned hill climbs with either bark or native pine needles.

The work sites are about a 5 minute walk downstream on established angler trails from the upper parking lot at the north end of the Little Truckee meadow.  We will start at 9:00 in the morning and should be done by about 2:00 in the afternoon.
