CSPA readers write letters regarding issues: Join them and make a difference!

November 18, 2008 -- Following a series of news articles regarding delta and bay issues, several of our readers were moved to write letters, objecting to actions that are a threat to our fisheries.

Reader Dave Selby became concerned when he learned of the possible dumping of dredge spoils in the bay as part of the Hamilton Wetlands Restoration Project. In the project's initial planning, spoils were to be dredged and directly used to fill an old airbase. However, the Army Corps of Engineers determined that a cost savings could be found by first filling a hole in the bay with the dredge tailings, and then, later moving the spoils to the project area. His letter is available as a model for those wishing to write on the issue.

Reader Tom Coss recognized the Corps plan to install gates on False River, supposedly to enhance fisheries, as nothing more than a disguised plan to hold off bay waters so pumping could be increased. His letter is also available as a model for those wishing to write on the issue.

Letters and bodies at hearings make a difference. CSPA staff attempt to represent California's anglers at every point possible but nothing has as much impact of a letter or appearance by a private citizen. Angler apathy is the greatest fish killer in California!
