| More NewsFoothill Conservancy asks for your help to protect the Mokelumne for future generationsby Katherine Evatt, president of the Foothill Conservancy The Mokelumne is noted for its great scenic beauty and important cultural and historic sites. Amador County-based Foothill Conservancy is leading the effort to secure National Wild and Scenic River designation for 37 miles of the Mokelumne, from just below Salt Springs Dam to just below Highway 49. Wild and Scenic designation would protect the river from new dams and diversions, ensuring you have places to fish and teach kids about rivers forever. To endorse the Wild and Scenic designation or for more information, see www.foothillconservancy.org/rivers. If you have photos of the Mokelumne or fishing above Pardee Reservoir you’d like to share, contact Katherine Evatt at kke@foothillconservancy.org. And if you’re Facebook user, be sure to join the group Protect the Mokelumne River. |
