Grass roots effort springs up to defeat AB 1253, the "Striper" bill

by Jerry Neuburger, CSPA webmaster
April 9, 2009 -- A small group of avid striper fishermen, headed by Dave Sellers with technical help by Noel DeGuzman, have started a grass roots movement aimed at soliciting businesses to support the defeat of AB 1253, Jean Fuller's bill to remove the game fishing regulations and all DFG support from the striped bass. A website, SaveOurStripers.Org has been built around the effort and asks businesses to sign a petition opposing the bill.

The website states, "This petition site allows businesses to express opposition to Assembly Bill 1253 (Fuller-Striped Bass). By signing your business to the following letter, you will join numerous other businesses that wish to preserve the West Coast striped bass fishery. Immediately before AB 1253 is debated in the Assembly, we will compile the list of signatory businesses and submit the letter to key Assembly members. Your participation will be key to stopping AB 1253 - THE ASSEMBLY LISTENS TO BUSINESSES!"

The website also points out that, "SOS is a volunteer petition site. We are not soliciting financial contributions."

The website can be found at http://www.saveourstripers.org
