Restore the Delta is asking you to take special action on behalf of protecting the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta

July 1, 2009 -- The California Legislature is waffling on when the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee Hearing will be held to review a Delta Solutions Package. Even more disturbing, as of 6:30 a.m. today, they have not released a comprehensive bill for public review. We have heard, however, that a select group of people, not including any Delta representatives, may be reviewing some copies of what is in the works.

One public hearing for a set of water policies that has far reaching and expensive implications for the entire state is a mockery of the democratic process. Not giving ample and certain public notice of the one said hearing exemplifies a complete failure to lead. That is, unfortunately, what is happening in Sacramento.

Thus, we do not know if the hearing will be on July 7th, July 9th, or on another date. Please check your email and phone messages throughout the extended holiday. We will let you know about this crucial hearing as soon as we know.
However, and more importantly, a press conference with Senator Lois Wolk (D- District 5) will be held on July 7th at 11 a.m. (tentative time) on the North Steps of the Capitol. Senator Wolk has been advocating for Delta communities and sound Delta restoration policies throughout this legislative session.

We want to make it clear to the Assembly and Senate (while they waffle on if and when public input will be allowed) that it is time to give the Delta a voice on water issues. And that we are tired of the decisions being made without our consent and involvement.

We are asking all our supporters to turn out for this event, as well as the upcoming hearing. We know that making two trips to Sacramento is inconvenient, but it is time to make it clear what the Delta means to us.

Remember to check phone message and emails over the holiday for updates on the time and date for the Assembly Hearing. Again the press conference, which we are asking you all to attend will be on July 7th at 11 a.m. on the North Steps of the Capitol.
