RBOC concerned, Two Gates project will block delta boating

Boaters asked to attend Two Gates Meeting August 6th

July 27, 2009 -- Linda Bendsen, Recreational Boaters of California (RBOC) Vice President-north, is coordinating preparation of a written response to the Cal-Fed Bay-Delta Program's and the Bay Delta Conservation Plan's proposed 2-Gates Project. The "2-gates" sites in the Delta include: one to be placed across Connection Slough and the other across Old River. These are depicted on a map, attached.

There is a very important all day meeting in Sacramento regarding this Project to be held on August 6. A link to the agenda can be found at: http://www.science.calwater.ca.gov/pdf/reviews/
Final_2_Gates_meeting_notice.pdf

At issue regarding this Project is the long standing policy principle of RBOC to keep the navigable waters of California open and accessible to recreational boating. In this instance, this appears to have not been taken fully into consideration by Cal-Fed in designing the 2-Gates Project. RBOC is very concerned about this (as well as other proposed gates/barriers to be placed across various Delta waterways) relevant to the interests of recreational boaters. There is a very short time-line on the 2-Gates Project. It is on an extremely fast-track for installation targeted for the gates by this November!

Accordingly, I ask that you please notify boaters and yacht clubs about this Project and that they direct their comments about it to Linda as she gathers boaters' input for a RBOC response on it. And, please notify and urge boaters to attend the August 6 Sacramento meeting. Linda can be reached via email at lbendsen@pacbell.net or by phone at 707-422-3510.

Thank you,

Dave Breninger
RBOC President
