| More NewsDFG News ReleaseDFG's California Fishing Passport and NOAA Fisheries Offers Family Fishing Trips - Dana Point & San DiegoAug. 7, 2008. -- Come spend a day at sea fishing aboard an ocean sportfishing boat with family and friends as part of the DFG's California Fishing Passport Program. In partnership with NOAA Fisheries, Friends of Rollo/United Anglers of Southern California and Angler's Legacy, two Southern California fishing trips are slated for Dana Point on Aug. 10 and San Diego on Aug. 11. Adults and children of all ages and experience levels are invited, and kids 12 years and under will fish for free when accompanied by a paying adult. These events are also special Passport Legacy Challenge events, where experienced anglers are encouraged to team up with novice anglers to take them fishing. For those interested, teams may sign up the day of the trip. A rod and reel set donated by Abu Garcia will be given away to one winning team each day, and all novice anglers will receive custom fishing starter kits donated by Berkley, Bass Pro Shops and Plano at the end of the day to help encourage them to come out fishing again. Interested families and individuals can register for these special trips directly through either Dana Wharf Sportfishing or Seaforth Sportfishing. Dana Point - Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008 (7 a.m. - 4 p.m): Spend a beautiful day on the ocean aboard the spacious, new 90-foot Dana Pride. This three-quarter day trip will take you along the scenic Orange County coast to fish among the nearshore kelp beds and over rocky pinnacles for calico bass, white seabass, yellowtail, barracuda and possibly a big California halibut. Dana Wharf Sportfishing San Diego - Monday, Aug. 11, 2008 (12:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m.): Join the group in sunny San Diego for an afternoon of great fishing aboard the large comfortable 85-foot New Seaforth. This will be the perfect trip for the beginner or the casual angler wanting to fish for yellowtail, barracuda, calico bass, and more. Whether fishing the La Jolla kelp beds or Point Loma or sail south to Imperial Beach, expect a good view of the Southern California coastline as well as good fishing.
