KPIX to air segment on the Delta featuring CSPA Executive Director, Bill Jennings Wednesday, September 17, noon. Another segment LIVE from the Delta on September 18 at 6pm

September 16, 2008 -- KPIX investigative reporter, Jeff Schaub spent the afternoon of September 3, with Bill Jennings, touring the delta on the "No Nonsense" a 22 foot skiff owned and skippered by Jerry Neuburger, CSPA webmaster.

Bill took Jeff on a tour of some of the delta sloughs, the Port of Stockton and the discharge point for the Stockton wastewater treatment plant. The two reviewed past practices at the port and some of the clean up that has taken place under pressure from CSPA. Jennings also explained the toxic nature of the discharges currently from Stockton's wastewater treatment operation and the poor state of repair of the facility with over 40 accidental spills in the past year.

In addition to those chronic problems, the crew discovered a huge pile of garbage at one of the island beaches popular with weekend water enthusiasts. The pile of trash was such an eyesore that Schaub called in KPIX's helicopter for some aerial shots. Also of interest were a number of abandoned boat hulls found along the shore. At least a portion of these topics will be covered in the September 17, 11am broadcast.

Schaub was intrigued by the size of the delta, its potential and the obvious abuse it has suffered. He believed the issue deserved more than a two and a half minute segment on TV and believed that KPIX could give the delta story additional coverage. That coverage is the basis for the live broadcast to take place on September 18.
