Coastside calling for turnout regarding MLPA at Fish and Game Commission Meeting May 14th

by Dan Wolford

May 11, 2009 -- Guys we have entered the final stages for the north-central coast region – 2XA and the other alternatives are in front of the Fish and Game Commission. On Thursday the 14th they will take public comments on the merits of the various alternatives.

WE NEED THE ROOM PACKED WITH 2XA SUPPORTERS WEARING 2XA T-SHIRTS.

The doors should open about 7:45 in the morning, and the MLPA will be an early agenda item (Item 18) – so be there when the doors open and ensure that we pack this room. Showing up late and standing outside will not be effective. Don’t be late, you may not get in!

Speakers need to focus on the merits of 2XA – reference agenda item 18 on your speaker card:
• It achieves a higher average level of protection than any other proposal, including the preferred alternative. Not only do the SAT evaluations reflect this superiority, even the draft Environmental Impact Statement, on page 6-45 recognizes this when it says “Benefits to biological resources resulting from Alternative 2 (2XA) would be somewhat greater than those of the Proposed Project”
• It has the least socioeconomic impact of any other proposal, including the preferred alternative. Per SAT analysis.
• It is the only proposal to meet ALL of the SAT guidelines, including the size and spacing guidelines at the moderate-high level of protection; all the others including the preferred alternative fail to meet at least one of the spacing criteria.
• It has the support of local communities throughout the study region, and this is particularly important in the northern portion of the region at Sea Ranch, where there is a private security force that will help enforce the MPA at that location – no other proposal can say that.

Remember that there will be parking available at Sacramento Performance Marine – get there early enough to be at the Resources Building auditorium by the time the doors open – 7:45 AM. There are no formal carpooling arrangements from this parking to the meeting site – you must make those for yourself. The Grill Crew is looking at perhaps doing something back at Sacramento Performance Marine after testimony is complete.

And if you haven’t sent in your letter of support for 2XA go to http://capwiz.com/keepamericafishing/home/ and use that form letter to let the Commission know you support 2XA – it’s easy and quick.

THANKS GUYS – we cannot do this without you.
