CSPA request for Support for California's Fisheries and the California Delta

Re: Support of AB 1806, a bill to protect the California Delta's rapidly declining fisheries

Next week the Assembly will vote on passage of AB 1806. This bill is vitally important and calls for the agencies using the delta's water to be responsible for mitigation for the damage done to the delta's fisheries. While not a complete solution to the delta's woes, it's a step in the right direction.

REQUEST FOR LETTERS OF SUPPORT

Every one of you can help by writing your state assemblyman, telling him or her of your support of the bill and asking for his or her vote. The letter does not have to be a long drawn out affair, just a few simple lines. Here's an example:

____________________________________________

Dear Assemblyman (name),

I'm writing to express my support of AB 1806, the bill to protect the California delta's declining fisheries. The rivers of the state are its arteries and the delta it's heart. The rapidly declining fisheries are a sign that the whole system is in peril. The fisheries of the delta provide recreation for over 100 thousand sportsmen and women and have a monetary recreational value of over eight billion dollars annually. In addition to the recreational value, the commercial value of the state's Chinook salmon population is also in danger of being permanently destroyed, again a loss to the state of hundreds of millions of dollars annually. While I recognize the need to supply water to the southern portion of the state, those using the water should be responsible for mitigating the losses to the fisheries and provide funds for their support and recovery.

Please vote yes on AB 1806,

Sincerely,

NAME (important)
Address (important)
Phone (important)
E-mail (important)

and enter your address and zip code. Once your representative's name is displayed, go to their site and either use their website's form to send your letter or if displayed, use their e-mail. It is IMPORTANT that you include your address, phone and e-mail address. The assembly members want to know if the persons contacting them are in their district.
