EBMUD 2040 Workshop turns into protest to raising Pardee Dam

August 12, 2009 -- About thirty parties provided comments, all in opposition to aspects of East Bay Municipal District's  Programmatic Environmental Impact Report (PEIR), especially to the inclusion of an alternative that would raise Pardee Dam. Among those parties was CSPA's FERC Projects Director Chris Shutes, who addressed some of the hydrologic aspects of the proposed dam raise that were not addressed by other speakers.

The turnout was in response to an EBMUD workshop that took place in Oakland on August 11, on its Programmatic Environmental Impact Report (PEIR) for its Water Supply Management Plan 2040. A draft PEIR was circulated in the spring of 2009. EBMUD is currently analyzing comments on the draft document, and considering whether to certify a final PEIR in October.
