Tuolumne River Trust has new Bay Area Organizer, Jessie Raeder

By Peter Drekmeier
September 26, 2008 -- It's my pleasure to introduce the Tuolumne River Trust's new Bay Area Organizer, Jessie Raeder. Jessie comes to us with tremendous grassroots organizing experience, and a deep connection to rivers. Please feel free to welcome Jessie and introduce yourself by sending a message to her at jessie@tuolumne.org.

Jessie joins us just in time for the release of the Final Program Environmental Impact Report (FPEIR) for the Water System Improvement Program (WSIP) on Tuesday, September 30. The SF Planning Department received more than 1,000 comments on the Draft PEIR, which is why it's taken more than a year to finalize the report. As soon as we have the details, we'll send you a link to the report, followed up ASAP with our analysis.

The Day after the FPEIR is released, you're invited to join us at the TRT office for a casual get-together with pizza. We'll give you a run down on our initial response to the FPEIR, and follow it up with a brainstorming and strategy session. As we go into this final and critical month of the campaign, we're going to need the creativity and passion of our community, and your input is desired! Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 6pm here at TRT's new office - 111 New Montgomery St., #205, San Francisco. If you're interested in joining us, please RSVP to Jessie at jessie@tuolumne.org or 415-882-7252 x301.

We also will have a debriefing in Palo Alto a little later in the month.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The San Francisco Planning Commission will hold a hearing on the FPEIR on the morning of Thursday, October 30. That afternoon, the SFPUC will choose a WSIP option. October 30 will be the moment of truth; the culmination of several years of campaigning for a project that will not increase diversions from the Tuolumne. We need you to attend these hearings and voice your support for the Tuolumne, so please make your plans now.

In the meantime, a great way to support the cause is by encouraging your friends to sign our petition to the SFPUC. You can print a hard copy from http://www.tuolumne.org/content/fmd/files/2008%20Tuolumne%20Petition.pdf or direct people to the online version at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/tuolumne

I'd also like to draw your attention to a great letter to the SFPUC from Assemblyman Gene Mullin - http://www.tuolumne.org/content/fmd/files/2008%2008%20Gene%20Mullin%20SFPUC.pdf
